MP facilitates Operation Greens to protect farmers from distress sale

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Madhya Pradesh Chapter in association with MP State Agro Industries Development Corporation organised a webinar on Aatma Nirbhar Bharat –Operation Greens and Top to Total Scheme” today.

The webinar focused on operation greens and Top to Total scheme launched by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India with an aim to provide support to growers and sellers of tomato, onion, potato (TOP) including all fruits and vegetables (Total). The objective of intervention is to protect the growers of fruits and vegetables from making distress sale due to COVID-19 lockdown and reduce the post-harvest losses.

Shrikanth Banoth, Managing Director, MP State Agro Industries Development Corporation while detailing about the scheme, apprised participants of various steps and compliances that should be followed by claimant to avail the benefit of the scheme. He informed that Top To Total is a pilot project of the government for a limited period and crops like mango, banana, guava, kiwi, litchi, papaya, citrus, pineapple, pomegranate, jackfruit along with vegetables such as French beans, bitter gourd, brinjal, capsicum, carrot, cauliflower, chillies (green), okra, onion, potato and tomato. However, on the basis of suggestions of various stockholders it can be extended further. He stated that scheme is not applicable to same crop at all places, but district-wise crops have been identified and classified. For taking benefit of the scheme and claim for subsidy, one has to register on the portal of MoFPI and then claim can be submitted with registered login and password.

Shrikant urged all the participants to first complete the registration process which is prerequisite for claim process.

Dr Vijay Agrawal, Dy Director – Department of Horticulture, Government of Madhya Pradesh and DK Puranik, DGM, MP State Agro Industries Development Corporation provided the technical inputs on registration and claim process of the scheme.

The webinar was attended by more than 100 participants including food processors, cold storage, farmer producer organisations (FPOs,) progressive farmers among other stakeholders
