National Collateral Management Services Limited (NCML) recently held a one day workshop on organic farming as a CSR activity on pan India level at Malkapur in Maharashtra, Bongaon in West Bengal, Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, Gowraram in Telangana and Nainital in Uttarakhand. This function was attended by over 550 farmers. NCML organised it in association with leading NGOs in agriculture and rural development with an aim of spreading awareness about organic farming amongst the farmers. It is vital for consumers as well as farmers to understand the significance of organic food items.
Sanjay Kaul, MD & CEO, NCML, said, “I strongly believe that organic farmers should be given more incentives and encourage them to grow more organic fruits and vegetables and other crops. We should adopt measures to promote and consume organic food products and reduce the pesticides (chemical) being used for crops. Eating organic food not only nourishes but also ensures you zero side effects.”
The overall programme was aimed to optimise the productivity and fitness of diverse communities within the agro-ecosystem, including soil organisms, plants, livestock and people. Organic farming keeps the soil alive and in good health by use of organic residues and other biological materials along with beneficial microbes (bio-fertilisers) to release nutrients to crops for increased sustainable production in an eco-friendly pollution free environment. It excludes the use of synthetic inputs such as fertilisers, pesticides, hormones and feed additives and relies upon crop rotations, crop residues, animal manures, off-farm organic waste, mineral grade rock additives and biological system of nutrient mobilisation and plant protection.
NCML is India’s leading private-sector agri-logistics and services player with pan India presence in supply chain management, warehouse services, and collateral management, testing and certification and crop & weather intelligence. The company has recently expanded with two new business ventures- NCML Finance, for commodity funding and MktYard.com, a digital e-commerce platform.
