Indian traders have a golden opportunity to increase meat export to Egypt: Egyptian Ambassador

Indian meat exporters have a significant opportunity to increase their share in overall meat export to Egypt, even to 100 per cent from the current 75-80 per cent, the ambassador of Egypt to India, Wael Mohamed Awad Hamed, said on Friday at a function held in New Delhi.

“My understanding is that Indian meat in Egypt is approximately now between 75 and 80 per cent. We do hope that you will want to increase the meat trade to 85 per cent, to 90 per cent, 100 per cent, but if you are willing to go to 100 per cent Egypt will extend all support,” said the ambassador.

During the event, IS EG Halal, the only entity exclusively authorised by the Government of Egypt to certify Halal exports worldwide, announced the starting of operations in India through their local office Halal Market India to certify all meat products from India to Egypt as the market is open to expand the trading between India and Egypt.

“When the Prime Minister of India was in Egypt in June 2023, one of the issues that both countries have agreed to cooperate on is food security. 99 per cent of Egypt’s population is non-vegetarian; therefore, meat is an important part of food security. IS EG Halal Egypt the only authorised entity that certifies Halal products to Egypt will be opening their new office under the name of Halal Market in India to help Indian exporters,” the Egyptian ambassador added.

Egyptian Embassy announced in the presence of APEDA officials that the Halal Market part of IS EG will now operate in India to certify Halal to all the meat export being done to Egypt.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Gasser Elsayed, CEO, Halal Market India said that new operations or Halal certification will have no facilitation fees, only the announced price list from the authorities in Egypt will be applied and there will be no limitations for exporting to any traders in Egypt.
