mKisan portal, run by Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, is sending farm advisories in the form of SMSs directly to over five crore farmers.
Advisories to the farmers registered on this portal, are sent in 12 languages such as Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and English.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha Tuesday, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said, “Information and services available on mKisan portal are crop specific advisories to farmers through SMS and voice; Pull SMS service for farmers to register themselves and give feedback on the service; Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) service and extreme weather alert for farmers. 2462.37 crore SMSs have been sent to the farmers since launch of this portal on May 25, 2013 till June 28, 2019.”
