VP to attend 61st convocation of ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute on Feb 24
The 5-day long convocation programme of ICAR-IARI shall commence on February 20 with the merit medal presentations by the M.Sc. and Ph.D. students from 26 disciplines of six schools

Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the chief guest at the main event of the 61st Convocation of ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) on February 24, 2023, at the institute’s campus in New Delhi.

The 5-day long convocation programme of ICAR-IARI shall commence on February 20 with the merit medal presentations by the M.Sc. and PhD students from 26 disciplines of six schools.

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar and ministers of state, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Kailash Chaudhary, and Shobha Karandlaje are expected to join the convocation. Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research (DARE) and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR); Dr AK Singh, Vice Chancellor and Director, ICAR-IARI and Dr Anupama Singh, Dean and Joint Director (Education), ICAR-IARI are also expected to attend the event.

Presentations by the professors of each discipline, and lectures by IARI awardees followed by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Lecture will also be part of the Convocation Week.

Over 400 students (including M.Sc, M.Tech and PhD) will receive their degrees including students from foreign countries like Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. On this occasion, the vice President of India will also confer the NABARD-Professor VL Chopra Gold Medal and Best Student of the Year recognition to the selected M.Sc. and PhD students. The event shall see the presence of current and former Directors General, the Deputy Directors General, and Assistant Directors General of the ICAR, former Directors and Deans of the Institute, Project Director (WTC), Heads of Divisions and Professors.

ICAR-IARI has been providing leadership to the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) for advancements in agricultural research, education and extension.
