India’s foodgrain production is estimated at 330.5 million tonnes in 2022-23: Third Advance Estimates
According to agriculture ministry, the assessment of foodgrain production is based on the feedback received from states and validated with information available from other sources
Third Advance Estimates of the production of major crops for the agricultural year 2022-23 have been released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Thursday. The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar on the occasion said that the foodgrain production of 330.5 million tonnes is estimated in the current agricultural year. Tomar said that the agriculture sector is developing day by day due to the hard work of farmers, proficiency of scientists and farmer’s friendly policies of the government.
“The assessment of production of different crops is based on the feedback received from states and validated with information available from other sources. This assessment shall undergo further revision over successive estimates based upon feedback received from the states, alternative sources and other factors,” Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in a statement.\

As per Third Advance Estimates, the estimated production of major crops for 2022-23 is as under
Total Foodgrain Production  –  330.5 million tonnes
  • Rice  –  135.5 million tonnes
  • Wheat – 112.7 million tonnes
  • Bajra – 11.1 million tonnes
  • Nutri / Coarse Cereals – 54.7 million tonnes
  • Maize  –  35.9 million tonnes
Total Pulses – 27.5 million tonnes
  • Gram – 13.5 million lakh tonnes
  • Moong – 3.7 million tonnes
Oilseeds  –  41 million tonnes
  • Groundnut  –  10.2 million tonnes
  • Soybean  –  14.9 million tonnes
  • Rapeseed & Mustard – 12.5 million tonnes
Cotton  –  34.3 million bales (170 kg each bale) 
Sugarcane – 494.2 million tonnes
Jute & Mesta –9.5 million bales (of 180 kg each bale)
As per Third Advance Estimates for 2022-23, total foodgrain production in the country is estimated at 330.5 million tonnes which is higher by 14.9 million tonnes as compared to the previous year 2021-22.
Total rice production during 2022-23 is estimated at 135.5 million tonnes metric tonnes. It is higher by 6 million tonnes as compared to the previous year. The wheat production is estimated at 112.7 million tonnes which is higher by 5 million tonnes as compared to the previous year’s production.
Production of Maize in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at 359.13 LMT which is higher by 21.83 lakh tonnes than the previous year’s production. Production of Nutri / Coarse Cereals is estimated at 54.7 million tonnes which is higher by 3.6 million tonnes than the previous year’s production.

The production of Moong is estimated at 3.7 million tonnes (MMT) which is higher by 5.74 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) as compared to the previous year’s production. Total Pulses production during 2022-23 is estimated at 27.5 MMT which is higher by 2.02 lakh tonnes than the previous year’s production of 27.3 MMT.
The production of Soybean and Rapeseed & Mustard is estimated at 14.9 MMT and 12.5 MMT respectively, which is higher by 2 MMT and 5.31 LMT respectively than the production of the previous year 2021-22.
Total Oilseeds production in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at 41 MMT which is higher by 3 MMT than the previous year’s oilseeds production. Total production of Sugarcane in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at  494.2 MMT. The production of sugarcane during 2022-23 is higher by 54. MMT than the previous year’s production.
