FAO to release report on State of Agricultural Commodity Markets 2020 on Sep 23
The report will offer a detailed analysis of the major global trends in agri-food markets and trade, including quantifying the growth of agri-food global value chains over the last two decades

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the close relationship between markets and food security, and the role of global food systems in withstanding shocks.

This year’s The State of Agricultural Commodity Markets 2020 (SOCO 2020) report prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will make a case for the role of international trade and well-functioning markets in spurring inclusive economic growth and sustainable development, and strengthening resilience to shocks.

The report will offer a detailed analysis of the major global trends in agri-food markets and trade, including quantifying the growth of agri-food global value chains over the last two decades.

It will discuss policies, mechanisms and digital innovations that can help developing countries and smallholder farmers better participate in and reap the benefits of global value chains.

The State of Agricultural Commodity Markets 2020 will look at policy responses to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on food value chains, both nationally and globally.

The launch of the report will take the form of a virtual event, on September 23, 2020, from 16:00 (CEST) Rome, Brussels, Geneva /10:00 (EST) Washington D.C. It will feature addresses by the FAO Director-General, agriculture ministers, a technical presentation; and a moderated panel discussion of the report’s findings.
